INTERLIBRARY LOAN SERVICES
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) services allow patrons to request and borrow items that the library does not own. This service is provided to registered patrons of the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium (MVLC).
Items from the 36 libraries in the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium may be requested through the MVLC catalog, or contact a library staff member for help. Your username is your full library card number, with no spaces, and the default password is the last four digits of your phone number.
For items that are not in the MVLC catalog, contact the Reference Desk to make the request. Materials may be retrieved from local networks that we have a reciprocal agreement with or from libraries throughout the country using the OCLC system. You may also log into the statewide Commonwealth Catalog (linked at the bottom of each catalog page) with your Carlisle barcode and last name. This allows patrons to search for and request items from other Massachusetts library systems for pick-up in Carlisle. Some items may not be requestable through the Commonwealth Catalog; contact the Reference Desk with any questions.
Items that are in the MVLC catalog take two to four business days to arrive if there is no waiting list. Items requested from outside of the consortium take from 3 days to several weeks to arrive.
Looking for a journal article not found in our collection or online databases? We can request photocopies/scans of specific articles from other libraries; contact our Reference Desk for more information.
Please request only what you need. While the Gleason Library is delighted to be able to offer you this service, please be aware that there is a running cost to the library. The service is supported with your tax dollars, including state funds provided by the Governor and Massachusetts Legislature.
